Budget-priced Payday 2 secures publisher 505 Games’ first No.1 since Sniper Elite V2 back in week 18 of 2012, knocking Minecraft off the top spot.

Payday 2 is the sequel to the digital only original for PC and PS3, which makes it somewhat surprising that the Xbox 360 version accounts for 70 per cent of all Payday 2 retail sales.

Black Ops 2 saw a 60 per cent rise in sales, which is enough to climb four places to No.3, followed by FIFA 13 at No.4 and Animal Crossing: New Leaf at No.5.

Last week’s new entry, Namco Bandai’s Tales of Xillia, shows just how front-loaded sales of niche titles can be, falling from No.4 all the way down to No.29.

Friday, August 23 is perhaps the busiest day for new releases we’ve seen in months, with five high profile titles coming to stores.

Expect Saints Row 4 to come out on top, with Ubisoft’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist not too far behind. We can’t help but feel The Bureau and The Wonderful 101 will suffer up against the established franchises.

Disney Infinity should also place well, but Disney will hope it can become an evergreen title and as such week one figures won’t be so important.
