Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has entered the UK All Formats All Prices video game chart at No.1 thanks to a staggering five day haul of 1.78 million units and sales of £67.4 million.

Modern Warfare 2 has now grossed almost twice as much as the entire entertainment software market last week, with the Xbox 360 version alone having sold over one million units (£38.5 million).

No other game could come close to the might of MW2, despite a 45 per cent gain for Wii Sports Resort that helped the title climb one place to No.2. FIFA 10 is at No.3, Wii Fit Plus is down to No.4 and Forza 3 takes fifth place.

With New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Left 4 Dead 2 and Assassin’s Creed II hitting stores on Friday it looks like MW2 has it all to do to hold onto the No.1 spot. Our money’s on Assassin’s Creed, but you never know.
