Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has begun the year at the top of the All Formats All Prices UK video game chart, making it eight straight weeks in the No.1 position for the blockbuster sequel. It is the longest unbeaten run at No.1 in the All Formats Chart since Need for Speed: Underground 2 five years ago.

Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed II climbs back up the chart to No.2 and SEGA’s Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games moves up to No.3. Nintendo’s Wii Sports Resort and Wii Fit Plus follow at No.4 and No.5 respectively, with FIFA 10 at No.6, Just Dance up to No.7, New Super Mario Bros. at No.8, Mario Kart Wii at No9 and Avatar: The Game down two places to No.10.

After a few weeks which saw nothing new hitting stores, this Friday sees the long-awaited debut of SEGA’s Bayonetta and THQ’s fantasy epic Darksiders.
