A 74 per cent surge in Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition sales prevented Pikmin 3 from claiming Nintendo’s first Wii U No.1 in the All Formats Chart.
Pikmin 3 is the highest placed Wii U title of the 43 games released for the platform thus far. The game did perform considerably better than the GameCube’s Pikmin 2, however, which struggled into the chart at No.32 back in 2004.
Nintendo also released New Super Luigi U, which entered the chart at No.13.
The Last of Us falls to No.3 after spending six weeks at the top.
Elsewhere Dynasty Warriors 8 drops from No.5 to No.18 – expected given its niche audience – and The Smurfs 2 recorded a 213 per cent sales increase which sees its enter the Top 40 at No.25.

There’s nothing to get excited about on Friday so expect the current chart toppers to battle for No.1 next week. Pikmin 3 may struggle to maintain its position given the small Wii U installed base, but strong reviews and positive word of mouth may help counter the usual week 2 decline.
