GfK ChartTrack reports that EA and BioWare’s Mass Effect 2 has entered the All Formats All Prices UK video game chart at No.1, earning EA its first top spot of 2010.
Sales of Mass Effect 2 on Xbox 360 are almost double that of first week sales for Mass Effect 1, while sales of the sequel on PC are around three times greater than opening week sales of Mass Effect 1 on PC.
Ubisoft’s Just Dance drops one place to No.2, but sales are actually up 16 per cent week on week. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is at No.3, while Sony’s MAG makes a very respectable start at No.4 – not bad for a brand new IP.
Rather unsurprisingly, Capcom’s Tatsunoko vs Capcom failed to make the Top 40. You have to look in the Wii specific chart to find the game, where it finds itself at No.6.
The steady stream of high profile games continues on Friday with the release of Dante’s Inferno, Star Trek Online, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat and Endless Ocean 2. Backed by a strong ad campaign, EA’s Dante’s Inferno is the best bet to dethrone Mass Effect 2, but with God of War 3 around the corner, it will be interesting to see how the game fares on PS3.
