Halo 5: Guardians has entered the UK Video Game Chart at No.1, with launch week sales outpacing the like-for-like sales of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate by 50 per cent, ChartTrack has announced.
Likewise, Halo 5’s week one sales are also up by 50 per cent compared to the launch of Halo: The Master Chief Collection – the only other Halo title currently available at retail on Xbox One.
Despite Halo 5 gobbling up Xbox One sales, the lack of new releases on PS4 means Assassin’s Creed Syndicate slips only 39 per cent – a relatively modest drop given the typical week two fall for major launches.
FIFA 16 drops to No.3, despite sales being up 25 per cent week-on-week, followed by WWE 2K16 at No.4 – sales are outpacing 2K15 by three to one.
Minecraft: Story Mode is new at No.5, Guitar Hero Live drops eight places to No.11 (-39%), and Divinity: Original Sin: Enhanced Edition is new at No.37 on PS4 and Xbox One.

Halo 5’s success will be determined by more than its week one sales in the UK, but things are certainly looking good for the franchise’s first major original entry on Xbox One. Microsoft is yet to offer a global sales update for the game, so UK sales is one of the only barometers of success we currently have.
Ubisoft will also be moderately happy with Syndicate’s second week sales, dropping only 39 per cent. Reviews for Syndicate have largely been more positive than Unity so the publisher will be hoping for a greatly improved sales tail this time around.
Friday sees the launch of Black Ops 3, a game which looks set to be huge on release and could well become the franchise’s biggest hit in years. Also hitting stores is Need for Speed, EA’s reboot which has a lot resting on its bumpers given the publisher skipped a 2014 release.
