After last week’s triumph over Halo 3 to take the No.1 spot, EA’s FIFA 08 once again found itself battling with a Microsoft monster with the highly anticipated release of Project Gotham Racing 4. Despite plenty of positive reviews, PGR4 only managed to place at No.2, with FIFA 08 holding on at the top.

PGR4 does, however, claim the top spot in the Xbox 360 chart, ahead of Halo 3, and is also the top selling game on a single format – beating FIFA 08 on PS2. The game also betters the launch week sales of Project Gotham Racing 3, which debuted alongside the Xbox 360 back in 2005.

The newly released 40GB PlayStation 3 and the lower price 60GB console had a positive effect on PS3 game sales with Resistance: Fall of Man climbing back into the Top 10 at No.8, Heavenly Sword jumping to No.14 and MotorStorm up to No.18.

Besides PGR4 the only other new release to make the Top 40 is Sierra Entertainment’s Crash of the Titans at No.19.
