Batman: Arkham City has secured the All Formats All Prices UK video game chart No.1 spot, after a huge week of sales which sees the game claim the fourth best launch week of the year so far – behind FIFA 12, Gears of War 3 and LA Noire.

Batman: Arkham City is easily the biggest ever launch for Warner Bros., almost doubling the launch week number of Batman: Arkham Asylum.

The next highest new entry comes from Football Manager 2012, new at No.3 and 1,800 units behind FIFA 12 which clings on at No.2. Forza Motorsport 4 slides to No.4 and Just Dance 3 boogies down to No.5. The Sims 3 Pets is also a new entry at No.6.

PES 2012 slips to No.7, RAGE drops to No.8, Zumba Fitness is down at No.9 and Gears of War 3 is just about hanging in there at No.10.

Elsewhere two platform exclusives failed to light up the chart: Sony’s Ratchet & Clank All 4 One debuts at No.24, while Microsoft’s Dance Central 2 is a massive disappointment at No.40.

It’s great to see Batman: Arkham City doing so well given the amazing critical reception the title has received.

The poor sales of Dance Central 2 must be a huge worry for Microsoft which kicked off its second wave of Kinect titles last week. With a massive push for Kinect coming in the run up to Christmas, Microsoft can only hope sales improve in the weeks to come.

Friday sees the release of Microsoft’s second big Kinect sequel, Kinect Sports 2, but will be overshadowed by what is sure to be one of the biggest games this year, Battlefield 3.
