Nintendo has announced that quirky football game Inazuma Eleven is coming to the DS in the UK on August 26. The “football meets action role-play” game has already been turned into a manga TV series.

In the game you’ll follow the journey of teenage goalkeeper Mark Evans as he tries to recruit new players for his school football team – with the hope of winning the Football Frontier Tournament.

Players are able to explore the town and interact with over 1000 characters, each with unique skills and abilities. 50 additional characters can be recruited via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connect. On the pitch matches are either played out with 11 players on each team or as smaller 4-v-4 clashes. Numerous fantasy moves can be performed that can turn the tide of a match, so it’s up to you to choose wisely.

If you want to challenge friends the game includes local wireless play for up to four players.
