A new game based on James Cameron’s Avatar franchise has been announced by Ubisoft, Lightstorm Entertainment, and Fox Interactive.

The Division creator Massive Entertainment is developing the new game using its impressive Snowdrop engine. It was after a Snowdrop Avatar prototype was seen by Cameron that the partnership was agreed.

“What impressed me about Massive were the group’s passion for this project, and the power of its Snowdrop engine,” Cameron said. “With the power of [Snowdrop], and the team’s passion and obsessive focus on detail, we know they’re the right group to bring the beauty and danger of Pandora to life.”

The new game aims to expand on the movie universe – there are four movie sequels planned – and offer the freedom to experience the world of Pandora like never before.

The team at Massive is currently recruiting for positions on the Avatar game.

Ubisoft previously released the 2009 Avatar game, to pretty poor reviews.
