Ubisoft will introduce Uplay Passport, its version of the now popular online pass system, with the release of Driver: San Francisco in September, GamerZines reports.

Uplay Passport is said to work similarly to existing online pass systems, with users required to buy a new copy of the game to obtain access to online multiplayer elements. A separate Uplay Passport code will be available to purchase from Xbox LIVE and PSN for those picking up the game second hand – the price of this code is unconfirmed.

It’s assumed Uplay Passport will feature in all of the publisher’s future titles offering online multiplayer, including Assassin’s Creed: Revelations and Ghost Recon: Future Soldier.

However, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations lead game designer Alexandre Breault today denied any knowledge of such a system.

Driver: San Francisco will be released on September 2 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Ubisoft’s Uplay Passport doesn’t come as a great surprise; back in May 2010 the publisher said it would “probably follow EA’s project $10.
