Next-gen consoles could sell twice as many units within their first two years on sale as current generation consoles managed within the same time period, Ubisoft has predicted.
Commenting in a press release announcing the publisher’s plans for E3, Ubisoft said: “As the industry transitions to a new console cycle, past market trends and Ubisoft’s internal estimates indicate that within two years the next-gen consoles’ installed base could double that of the previous generation over a comparable period.”
Xbox 360 managed to sell 10 million units within its first two and a half years on sale.
Ubisoft is betting on the success of next-gen consoles by investing in multiple titles aimed at PS4 and Xbox One, including at least one next-gen-exclusive title to be revealed at E3.
“Ubisoft’s cross-studio collaboration structure allowed the company’s creative teams to get an early start on the transition, with next-gen games like Watch Dogs already scheduled for release this year and more next-gen titles to be announced during E3,” added the publisher.
Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag and Watch Dogs are both expected to go on sale alongside Xbox One and PS4 later this year.
