Ubisoft is said to be moving at pace to develop a film based on its smash hit The Division video game, with Hollywood A-lister Jake Gyllenhaal reported to be attached to star and produce.

Ubisoft hasn’t commented on the Variety report, which also notes that a writer for the project has yet to be found.

Variety notes that Ubisoft is expected to try and package the project with an additional star before approaching studios.

For Ubisoft this could be a third possible movie franchise, joining this year’s Assassin’s Creed starring Michael Fassbender, and the in development Splinter Cell with Tom Hardy attached as the star.

Gyllenhaal previously appeared in Disney’s lavish flop Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time back in 2010.

Meanwhile The Division looks set to be a major franchise for Ubisoft going forward, having become the publisher’s fastest-selling game and recently recorded more than 9.5 million registered users.
