Ubisoft has announced the Skull and Bones Ship’s Wheel Controller just in time for the game’s official launch today. Disappointingly, it’s not for sale, but for “promotion only”

The official reveal video for the Skull and Bones Ship’s Wheel Controller showcases the alleged design and functionality, even though it isn’t clear whether this is a render or a genuine prototype product. According to the video, the wheel is “hard carved” which resembles taking a ship at the helm but with some much-needed gaming functionality.

Chiefly, this means the addition of a D-pad built into the left hand side as well as “precision control” face buttons meaning you’ll have a greater level of control when piloting the ship. As expected, the wheel has a full 360-degree rotation which is showcased as it spins quickly in the clip. There are also velocity paddles which can be used for various functions within the game, too.

The wheel even appears to light up and even sing with the “Shanty Mode”. The demonstration reveals that the controller can spurt out sea shanties. Really, this is more of an elaborate promotional stunt rather than a peripheral that you’ll be able to purchase. That’s a real shame, because a novelty controller for Skull and Bones really would have been refreshing.
