Activision has said Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has amassed the “largest pre-orders” in the publisher’s history and called the game the “must-have title” of 2009.
“This will be the must-have title of the year,” said Activision CEO and president Mike Griffith during the publisher’s Q2 earnings call. “The original Modern Warfare was released two years ago and has sold almost 14 million units worldwide life to date. The excitement for the next instalment is evidenced by the largest pre-orders in Activision’s history.”
Griffith also confirmed post release DLC plans for the title, confirming that two maps packs will be released.
“In terms of online content, we plan to launch two separate map packs for this title,” said Griffith. “Map packs help extend the shelf life of the franchise, as evidenced by the strong catalogue sales and premium pricing that we maintained a year-and-a-half after launch. Life to date, we’ve had strong success with map packs on this franchise, selling more than 8 million units for both the Xbox 360 and PS3.”
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is scheduled for release on November 10.
