More than 45 new entertainment apps are heading to Xbox One and Xbox 360 in the future, Microsoft has announced, including Twitter and Vine.

The social media apps form a part of a new wave of experiences set to release on Xbox One later this year but – disappointingly – they’ll only be available to download in the US at launch.

UK users can look forward to Now TV, Vevo, Sky News, Crunchyroll, Filmbox Live, GoPro, Kdrama, MLG, NBA, NHL, Picturebox and TuneIn, with many more set to launch on the other side of the pond, including Comedy Central and HBO Go.

The Twitter app is said to have been “optimized-for-TV” and lets users see the latest tweets related to the TV show they’re currently watching on the same screen. Twitter will also be directly integrated into OneGuide “where you will be able to see the shows that people are tweeting about in real-time”.

“People turn to Twitter every day to enjoy and engage in the real-time conversations about their favorite TV shows,” said Twitter’s VP business development and platform Jana Messerschmidt. “We’re enhancing that experience on the Xbox One with a unique Watch with Twitter integration. It will now be easier to discover what shows are trending in real-time on Twitter, tune-in and follow the conversation right from within the Xbox One interface. We are excited to work with the Xbox One team and continue to deliver unique entertainment experiences.”

It isn’t known when the Twitter or Vine apps will become available to download in the UK.

A new system update for Xbox One launched earlier today making entertainment apps free to access on the console. An Xbox 360 update is also due this week.
