Twisted Metal, Eat Sleep Play’s reboot of the classic car combat series, has been pushed into “early 2012”, David Jaffe has announced.
Writing on the PlayStation Blog, the Eat Sleep Play co-founder had some good news, and some bad.
“The good news,” he says, is that “Eat Sleep Play and Sony Santa Monica are cranking like mad to get a fantastic Twisted Metal build ready for both Gamescom and PAX Prime.”
The bad news?
“We’re not shipping Twisted Metal October 4th, 2011.” Jaffe reveals, “We’re going to miss our date. We’re going to be late.”
“Ugh! I know, I know. A lot of dedicated, supportive, passionate Twisted Metal fans have been waiting for the return of Calypso’s demented contest for a long time but the truth is: we’re just not ready yet.”
“Sony has been – and remains – a super supportive champion and collaborator on this title and all of us at Eat Sleep Play are so grateful that their patience and generosity will allow us the extra time needed to polish our demented baby until it shines.”
Extra time to polish, eh? This could very well be the case, but I’m sure Twisted Metal will also benefit from getting itself out of the Q4 2011 window, which is looking particularly crowded this year. Bethesda vice president Pete Hines believes some games are going to get the short end of the stick in the run up to Christmas – could Twisted Metal have been one of them?
