A sequel to the rather good Transformers: War for Cybertron is currently in development and scheduled for release in 2012, Hasbro has confirmed.

Mark Blecher, SVP and general manager of Digital Media & Gaming, said: “This is the most highly-rated, critical success of any game that’s had the Hasbro brand yet and we’re looking forward to a sequel in 2012.”

No information on the sequel was given, but it’s assumed High Moon Studios will once again be in charge of development.

Activision published War for Cybertron in June 2010.

After a couple rather poor Transformers titles based on the Michael Bay movies, War for Cybertron came as a bit of surprise, delivering a Gears of War style romp with transforming robots.

The game won’t, however, be appearing alongside the huge marketing push surrounding the third movie – a movie-specific title is planned to cash in on this.
