Transformers: Dark of the Moon, a new Transformers video game to launch alongside the July 1 motion picture of the same name, is in development at High Moon Studios, Activision has confirmed.

High Moon will be known by some as the studio behind the rather good War for Cybertron.

The game features an original prologue storyline which leads into the summer’s motion picture sequel.

In Transformers: Dark of the Moon players will fight in battles on Earth that will shape the events of the upcoming film. A new Stealth Force gameplay mechanic will make it possible to instantly convert to a third, hybrid state that combines the weapons and firepower of robot mode with the agility and manoeuvrability of vehicle mode.

The action will unfold across environments around the world, including the Jungles of South America, Siberian military facilities, Detroit Cityscapes and more, with players assuming the role of Transformers from the movie.

Additionally, an online multiplayer mode will allow players to take control of their favourite robots and battle with or against friends.

High Moon Studios is handling the Xbox 360 and PS3 game, while Behaviour Interactive is developing distinct versions for the Wii, Nintendo DS and 3DS.

With any movie license comes a handful of pessimism, which even the news of High Moon’s involvement can’t shake off. We’d like the game to be good, but we’re assuming the worst until proven otherwise.
