Developed by Polyphony Digital Inc, Tourist Trophy looks set to do for motorcycles, what Gran Turismo did for motorcars. The game will feature more than 80 licensed motorcycles including bikes from BMW Motorrad, Ducati, Honda and Kawasaki, and more than 35 international courses over which you can race.

Since the inception of Gran Turismo, it has been a labour of love for us to offer players the most authentic racing experience possible, and we are excited to build upon this foundation with our new motorcycle entry titled Tourist Trophy for PlayStation 2,” said Kazunori Yamauchi, creator of the Gran Turismo franchise. “With motorcycle racing background, our development team for Tourist Trophy follows the Gran Turismo standard in realism, taking into account the various parameters of individual motorcycles, riding style, environments and how they react to the player’s moves.

As in Gran Turismo, Tourist Trophy will include two modes of play: Arcade and Challenge Mode. Arcade Mode gives players access to quick races for one or two players with the choice of track and motorcycle open for selection. Challenge Mode is essentially a career mode and players will have to start at the bottom and work their way up to the top by taking license school missions and competing in various race events, always in an effort to upgrade and unlock new bikes and accessories. License schools, as in Gran Turismo, will enable players to obtain a license which in turn will open up new races and events.

Photo Mode, which proved popular in Gran Turismo 4, also makes an appearance, allowing gamers to take snap shots of the racing action and share pictures with friends by saving the images to a memory card or USB memory stick. There is no confirmed European release date at this time, but we can expect the game to appear at some point after the North American release.
