Activision has announced Tony Hawk: Shred, a new extreme sports video game created for a younger audience.

In Tony Hawk Shred players will be able to experience supersized skate and snowboarding action using the game’s motion-sensing board controller (TH Ride boards are compatible).

Featuring an arcade style look and feel, Shred will be packed with an assortment of tricks, encouraging kids to get off the couch and into the action, be that riding on cement or snow.

“Tony Hawk: Shred is all about experiencing over-the-top, almost unbelievable GO BIG moments throughout the game – the kind of tricks and stunts that we can only hope to achieve as our sports continue to evolve,” said Tony Hawk. “I’m also excited about including snowboarding in Shred, because when we originally came up with the board motion-controller, we didn’t just have skateboarding in mind, and it’s nice to finally see that idea coming to fruition.”

The game will also feature a line-up of pro skate and snowboarders, including skaeboarders Tony Hawk, Lyn-z Adams Hawkins, Corey Duffel, Sean Malto, David Gonzalez, Geoff Rowley, Stevie Williams and Chaz Ortiz; and snowboarders Travis Rice, Louie Vito and Olympic Gold Medalist Torah Bright.

Additionally, players will have access to Mii versions of all the pro athletes in the game on Wii, and can import their own Mii and Avatar characters in the Wii and Xbox 360 versions of the game.

PS3 and Xbox 360 versions are in development at Robomodo, while Buzz Monkey is handling the Wii edition. The game is scheduled for release this holiday.
