Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is available to buy now in stores across North America, multiple user reports claim, days in advance of its official release date.

The game had been due to launch in the US next Tuesday with a UK release following next Friday, January 31. But reports claim that the game is available to buy from GameStop stores today.

Square has yet to formally announce an accelerated release or explain the reasons for doing so.

However, it appears that the early release may not have been authorised by Square. The official Tomb Raider Twitter account reaffirmed earlier today that “Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition hits stores 1/28 in NA & 1/31 in EU”, suggesting that early sales may still be breaking the street date.

It was revealed yesterday that the PS4 version of Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition runs at 60fps, with the Xbox One reportedly rendering at just 30fps.

Responding to the reports, Square said that “anything beyond 30fps for [Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition] is gravy“.
