TMNT The Last Ronin, THQ Nordic’s video game adaptation of the critically acclaimed 2020 comic book miniseries of the same name, has been revealed as part of the publisher’s 2023 showcase. Though the announcement trailer didn’t show much of the game’s premise and setting, the stealthy action-packed project should let players take the reins of a lone Ninja Turtle searching for revenge after his brothers suffered their untimely demise at the hands of Oroku Hiroto, the grandson of The Shredder.

Originally masterminded by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, The Last Ronin turns the upbeat, weapon-wielding reptile franchise of yore into a darker and more mature solo quest for justice. Alas, fans of the original series will only be given fleeting glimpses of the classic crew that includes Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Leonardo as this future timeline sees the gang somehow defeated.

Unfortunately, a release date for TMNT The Last Ronin has not been provided yet as production on the upcoming RPG has seemingly only begun. However, the developers have revealed that the game will only be playable on current gen consoles including the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC at launch. So if you haven’t upgraded your system yet, then you’ll still have plenty of time ahead of its future release.

Alas, with it only having been announced, you will have to remain patient for a while since an RPG game of this scale may take a long while before its fully created and polished. However, if THQ Nordic’s past release strategies are anything to go by, then we can most likely expect it to be released in late 2024 or early 2025.
