EA has acquired the rights to publish a sequel to Titanfall, GameSpot has been told by a reputable source.

The source added that EA’s option to publish Titanfall 2 was based on the sales performance of the recently launched first game, and whilst no official sales data has been released the upturn in Xbox One console sales suggests the mech shooter has been a success.

EA, however, chose not to confirm the rumours. “We do not comment on rumour or speculation,” a representative told the site. “Right now all our focus is on supporting all the fans worldwide enjoying Titanfall.”

Furthermore, Polygon has been told by its own sources that the sequel will not be tied to Microsoft systems, opening the door for Titanfall 2 to appear on PS4.

Back in October Respawn’s Vince Zampella said that the studio would at some point make games for PS4.
