Homefront: The Revolution comes with a bonus Easter Egg for fans of classic 00s shooter series TimeSplitters: an arcade cabinet featuring the first two levels of TimeSplitters 2.
The arcade machine can be found in a makeshift prison within the game, and features TimeSplitters 2’s ‘Siberia’ and ‘Chicago’ levels fully playable on PS4, Xbox One and PC. The game doesn’t appear to have been remastered for current-gen systems, however, retaining a similar look to the 2002 original.
Homefront’s developer Dambuster Studios is largely made up of former Free Radical staff, of course, the studio behind the critically-acclaimed TimeSplitters series. The developer was later acquired by Crytek and renamed Crytek UK, before being acquired by Deep Silver in 2014 and renamed Dambuster Studios.
At the moment, the terms of Deep Silver’s licensing agreement with Crytek remain unclear, but in a follow-up email with VideoGamer.com a Deep Silver representative confirmed that Crytek still owns the rights to the TimeSplitters IP, and that only the first two levels of TimeSplitters 2 are included.
The latest TimeSplitters game, TimeSplitters: Future Perfect, launched on PS2, Xbox and GameCube in 2006.
