EA has announced Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09, the latest instalment in the hugely successful golf video game franchise. EA is promising a more intuitive and customisable GamerNet experience, a new game engine powering online play, and dynamic gameplay thanks to Tiger Woods’ personal coach.

“Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 is the most authentic golf video game on the market, and we’re excited to bring an immersive experience to the masses,” said Executive Producer Mike Taramykin. “Our partnership with Hank Haney provides fans immediate coaching from one of the top minds in golf. This year’s game brings unprecedented levels of customization and control, allowing seasoned vets and first time players ‘inside the ropes’ of Tour golf.”

In Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 a player’s skill level is dynamic, constantly adjusting throughout a round, just as often happens in real life. Following each round, Haney will offer feedback to the player on their performance.

EA Sports GamerNet, which was introduced in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08, has been refined in 09 and promises to deliver challenges instantly throughout all game modes and players will have the ability to post challenges from the fairways. The mode will also offer a daily leaderboard and challenges designed for an individual’s playing style.

Online play has also been overhauled, offering a new simultaneous mode for up to four players. This enables players to tackle each hole at the same time, instead of having to wait for other players to take their shot.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 is coming to Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PS2 and PSP. There’s no sign of versions for PC or Nintendo DS. The game is set for an August 26 debut in North America, so expect a European release to follow shortly after.
