Drool has announced, in a trippy new trailer, that Thumper will be making its way onto the Xbox One on August 18. The critically acclaimed rhythm violence game has been (rightly) making waves on the PS4, PC and Nintendo Switch. Now the space beetle spectacular will be thumping its way onto Xbox. It’s like an LSD nightmare.

In Thumper the player guides a space beetle as it traverses a hellish void towards a giant head. Yes, really. A rhythm title with a unique twist, players must press a button to hit notes in time to the background music, at the same time as they attempt to avoid obstacles. In short, it’s a mix of classic rhythm games, blistering Wipeout-esque speed, and a brutal physicality.

Thumper is comprised of nine levels, with a drastically increasing difficulty as players navigate the music, the level and boss encounters, the pounding soundtrack and trippy visuals contributed to this being one of the most immersive and engrossing titles when played with headphones, or even on VR.

For the Xbox One release, the developers have said that they have tweaked the game to take advantage of the controller’s impulse trigger vibrations, which enable the game to subtly adjust the vibration according to collisions or scrapes. This is similar to how the HD rumble was implemented on the Switch version

Thumper is out now on PS4, PC and Nintendo Switch. It will release on Xbox One on August 18.
