According to an LA Times report, investors are said to have been left “spooked” by disappointing reviews of THQ’s Homefront, pushing the publisher’s stock down 21 per cent.

Early review scores painted a positive picture, but after other critics offered their verdicts the game’s Metacritic slipped to 72/100.

We awarded the game a respectable 7/10, noting the shooter failed to live up to its potential.

THQ has said it needs to sell two million copies to break even.

On the Homefront review scores, Chief Executive Brian Farrell commented: “The game seems to resonate with consumers.”

He added: “It’s a mass-market title. Let’s see what players think.”

The game hits stores on Friday for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
