Back in May THQ announced the development of The Sopranos video game for PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360, with a release pencilled in for the end of the year. Yesterday it was revealed that the game had been cancelled on the Xbox 360.

During a conference call with analysts following the publisher’s earnings reports, THQ chief financial officer Edward K. Zinser revealed that the Xbox 360 title was no longer being made.

Amortization of 18 percent was up three points versus the prior year quarter,” Zinser told analysts. “This is primarily due to our decision to discontinue development of the Sopranos for Xbox 360. There is no change to our plans to replace it, [but] we will release it on PS2 [during] the holiday [season].

The Sopranos game is in development at 7 Studios, the people behind the not so amazing Fantastic 4 and Pirates of the Caribbean: The Legend of Jack Sparrow. A THQ rep told GameSpot that the PS2 version of the game is still on course for a fourth quarter release.
