THQ has today announced Red Faction: Guerrilla, the next title in the destructive action series from Volition.
The game is set 50 years after the events of the original Red Faction and promises to redefine the limits of destruction-based third-person gameplay. Players will assume the role of an insurgent fighter with the re-established Red Faction movement as they battle for liberation from the oppressive Earth Defense Force.
Players will carve their own path through the game, wreaking havoc and destruction on the vast, open-world Mars environment, from the mining post of Parker to the capital city of Eos. According to Mike Kulas, president of Volition, “gamers can literally tear down the enemy EDF presence brick by brick”.
The new third-person gameplay is joined by a full cover system – something which seems to be a must have in modern action titles. The game will also feature a robust multiplayer component, with several modes focused on destruction-based gameplay.
“Red Faction is one THQ’s most successful and critically acclaimed original franchises to date, with a huge global base of loyal fans waiting to join the new revolution,” said Brad Carraway, director of global brand management, THQ. “With the game’s unique pairing of true physics-based destruction, fast-paced guerrilla warfare style combat, and a massive world to explore – Red Faction: Guerrilla will redefine the limits of open-world gaming.”
Red Faction: Guerrilla is expected to ship worldwide in THQ’s fiscal year 2009. Expect early impressions of the game in March.
