Speaking during a recent conference call that followed the release of the company’s Q2 results, Farrell was very positive about the Wii, noting that he expects the Wii “to reach a multi-million installed base quickly.” He also confirmed plans to “launch an increased number of Wii SKUs in fiscal 2008“
Farrell was less positive when it came to the PS3, explaining the decision to release titles for the platform in 2007, once its install base has grown to a sizable number. Other executives offered thoughts on the PlayStation 3’s download opportunities, noting that “Sony is continuing to refine their online and download models” and that it won’t be until mid 2007 that revenues through downloads will present a “meaningful opportunity.“
