Fading Embers will be the third and final release in a series of narrative-driven DLC for the critically acclaimed This War of Mine.

Set in the fictional city of Pogoren, Graznavia, This War of Mine is a strategy simulation game that takes inspiration from the Bosnian War from 1992 to 1995. The player must avoid starvation, temper hostile scavengers, and contend with complex moral choices to ensure their characters’ survival. The game was supported post-launch with The Little Ones DLC, which added child survivors into the narrative, and the Stories Season Pass, which offered DLCs Father’s Promise in 2017 and The Last Broadcast in 2018.

Fading Embers is the last episode in Stories, and follows Anja, who is trapped in the warzone and ‘carrying a heavy burden as she has to answer to herself what is more important – survival of human legacy or the survival of a man.’

Tomasz Kisilewicz, the lead artist behind Fading Embers, stated that this DLC will not be as linear as the previous narratives: ‘This Story focuses on choices that lead to multiple endings that were necessary to cover the question of what has the bigger value: things made by men that outlast life or the life itself. When you think about it, humans stand against the destructive power of war not only to save themselves but also to save what entire generations create.’

This War of Mine has secured 4.5 million sales since its launch in 2014, and has raised $500,000 for the War Child charity.
