Best Buy’s Cyber Monday deals are offering an incredible price on a cloud gaming Chromebook today. If you’re in the market for something lightweight and built for game streaming then this could be your last chance to bag a bargain. It’s just a small taste of what’s happening in the Cyber Monday gaming laptop deals right now.

The Acer Chromebook 512 GE is available today for only $449 (was $649) for $200 off the MSRP. Specifically, that’s a full discount of 30% which is huge. The trade-off here with this cloud gaming laptop is that its processing power is lacking and reliant on the likes of PC Game Pass and Nvidia GeForce Now to stream titles to instead of playing natively, but there are some hidden strengths for sure.

For starters, there’s a 2560 x 1600p display (otherwise known as QHD+) or better than 1440p combined with a 120Hz refresh rate. That means you’ll be able to play games in a far higher target resolution through streaming than you would natively from a gaming laptop hovering around the $450 mark. At MSRP, the Acer Chromebook 512 GE is a harder sell, but way under $500, there’s some real potential there.

Acer Chromebook 516 GE

Intel Core i5-1240P CPU, Intel Iris Xe graphics, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 120Hz 2560 x 1600 16-inch display.

Speaking of the hardware itself, it’s still fairly rare to see an Intel Core i5-powered machine with 8GB of RAM for around the $450 mark brand new. Usually, it’s more common to see machines running cheaper ARM-based or lower spec processors from Intel. The hardware is certainly respectable for work and productivity, sure, but its advanced display and RGB keyboard give it a gaming edge you won’t really see at this price range.

Then there’s the likes of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate cloud streaming which features hundreds of games for a low monthly price of $16.99 per month or Nvidia GeForce Now’s service which starts at $9.99 a month or is available as $49.99 for six months of access. The major caveat here is that you’ll find a respectable internet speed in order to game. This is likely to be fine around your home’s Wi-Fi network, but going out and about with a cellular hotspot may mean performance is more hit and miss.

Microsoft recommends a minimum high speed internet connection of 10Mbps which is fairly conservative given the amount of data transferred between native hardware and a machine like this. Until earlier this year, there was also the likes of Google Stadia which was shuttered a few months ago. Still, if you’re in the market for a capable laptop for work and productivity that can handle cloud gaming on the go then the Acer Chromebook 512 GE could be perfect for you.
