Platinum Games’ The Wonderful 101 could be coming to the Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One through a kickstarter set up by the studio (via PlayStation LifeStyle).

Hideki Kamiya is keen to bring The Wonderful 101 back. Originally exclusive to the Wii U, we thought the game was “rock paper scissors: ludicrous anime edition,” and took all of the things Platinum Games excels in and merged them into a moreish hack and slash with individual flair. A few years ago, Platinum Games was “trying to negotiate with Nintendo whether a possible Wonderful 101 Switch release could happen,” but it seemed out of reach.

Last week, Kamiya posed for a photo in the Platinum Games offices. The computer behind Kamiya showed the time and date to be 1.01pm, on October 1, and there was a Nintendo Switch lying on the desk. Either Platinum Games experienced a short out that caused the computers to say the wrong time and date and Kamiya was passing the time on his Switch until IT services sorted it, or the studio was trying to tell us something. Now, a kickstarter profile for Platinum Games has popped up. It has no attached projects but an industry insider claims that Kickstarter is the developer’s last resort to get a The Wonderful 101 remake off the ground.
Platinum (apparently) pitched it around to different publishers. Nobody wanted it. Nintendo certainly didn't want it. Kickstarter is a back-up plan.

Platinum Games expressed that it would like to self-publish its titles in the future, and this will be helped along with the significant “capital investment” from Tencent Holdings. “This partnership has no effect on the independence of our company, and we will continue operations under our current corporate structure,” said CEO Kenichi Sato. As a result, Platinum Games could use this pot of gold to bring The Wonderful 101 to the current generation. It certainly is keen to do so, but we’ll have to sit tight and see what comes of this report.
