The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was recently buffed with a High-Dynamic Range (HDR) patch on PlayStation 4, though it appears the update has come with some unwanted side effects.

According to a report Digital Foundry, update 1.61 causes some notably visual hiccups when running on 4K resolution on PS4 Pro, specifically regarding draw distance and shadow foliage. In addition, it also appears to happen when running in SDR on Sony's high-powered telly box, though isn't an issue on Xbox One X.

Developer CD Projekt RED will hopefully whip out its can of bug spray soon enough, but until then, it's possible to circumvent the issue — at the loss of 'enhanced ambient occlusion,' DF notes — by selecting 1080p on your PS4 without super-sampling, which removes the draw distance issue.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was released on PS4, PC, and Xbox One in May 2015, receiving critical acclaim in the process and going on to ship over 10 million copies by the following March. The fantasy role-playing game franchise as a whole has flogged around 33 million copies to date

While protagonist Geralt is hanging up his sword as far as future Witcher games go, he's still not quite done cracking heads yet, as he'll be popping over to SoulCalibur 6 as a guest character later this year.
