Although The Witcher 3 was released in 2015 with its final major DLC expansion, Blood and Wine, launching in 2016, rumors claim that new DLC is coming. A Polish analyst suggests the DLC could launch in May 2026, and the belief is that it will tie into The Witcher 4.
The Witcher video game series is developed by Polish developer CD Projekt RED, and The Witcher IP is the brainchild of Polish fantasy writer Andrzej Sapkowski. Translated by GamingLeaksAndRumors from outlet strefainwestorow, Noble Securities analyst Mateusz Chrzanowski says the DLC will be “another paid add-on,” and expects it to release in May 2026 while also anticipating “sales of 11 million copies at USD 30 each next year”.
In addition, the analyst says the DLC release “should kick off the actual marketing campaign for The Witcher 4”. CD Projekt RED revealed The Witcher 4 at The Game Awards 2024, and it stars Ciri as the protagonist, taking over from Geralt, the star of The Witcher 3. CD Projekt RED has made it clear that The Witcher 4 will not release before 2027, so Chrzanowski “expects the game to be released in Q4 2027,” which would be either October, November, or December.
The Witcher 3 DLC rumors
There were rumors about new DLC for The Witcher 3 before The Game Awards on December 11, but a reveal didn’t happen. PCGamesN reports that rumors stem from Polish leakers Borys Nieśpielak and Remigiusz Maciaszek.
Nieśpielak claims that the DLC is being developed by Fool’s Theory, an independent developer of former CD Projekt RED staff who are also officially developing The Witcher 1 remake as announced in 2022.
While the DLC is a rumor, CD Projekt RED announced on The Witcher’s official X account that they are bringing “cross-platform mod support to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S”. The plan was for mods to arrive on consoles before the end of 2025, but support was delayed to 2026.
As for The Witcher 4, CD Projekt RED has pushed back against some criticism of it starring Ciri. CD Projekt RED promises sceptical fans that they are “beholden to the lore” of the books, and that Ciri as the main character provides “really exciting opportunities”.
While there are some skeptics, many felt Ciri replacing Geralt was the natural evolution, including the voice actor for Geralt, who made it clear in 2018 that The Witcher 4 should focus on Ciri.
CD Projekt RED has only shown a tech demo of The Witcher 4 so far, showing the power of Unreal Engine 5. This tech demo runs at 60 FPS with ray-tracing on a base PS5, so it looks incredibly impressive.
Besides this tech demo, CD Projekt RED also says that “Baldur’s Gate 3 was an inspiration” for The Witcher 4. While The Witcher 4 will still be similar to The Witcher 3, CD Projekt RED has drawn inspiration from Baldur’s Gate 3 concerning “how the characters can interact with the world”.
