The Witcher 2: Assassin’s of Kings will be released on May 17, 2011, CD Project RED has announced.

International release dates will be confirmed at a later date, but we assume we’re looking at May 20 in the UK.

“We’ve decided to move the launch date back a few weeks to afford us more time to polish the game,” said Adam Badowski, project lead at CD Projekt RED. “Of course, we know that players would like to get the game as soon as possible, so we hope that they will forgive us! We strongly believe that the extra time spent polishing the title will be well worth the wait.”

For more on the game tune into CD Project autumn conference on November 18. The whole thing will be broadcast live on thewitcher.com and Facebook.

The game’s previously targeted March 2011 release won’t be met, and while fans will no doubt be disappointed, waiting a few extra months has to be better than playing a game that doesn’t meet the quality standards of CD Project RED.

Perhaps more importantly, the delay also takes the game out of the same release window as EA and BioWare’s high profile sequel, Dragon Age 2.
