As part of its Viper Commandos Premium Warbond, Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead Game Studios questionably introduced the deadly precision weapon, the K-2 Throwing Knife. We say questionably because, well, throwing knives are neither helpful in squishing bugs nor destroying bots, especially with grenades dealing plenty more damage in a larger AoE. However, there is one thing we can’t deny: throwing knives are much more fun to use than any other utility weapon in the game.
And, unsurprisingly, the player base agrees. After all, what other piece of equipment lets you duck, dip, dive, and dodge better than the throwing knife with the precision and mobility that only it can grant? Of course, if you want to finish missions quickly, you might be better off equipping your best Helldivers 2 loadouts instead. But if you want to enjoy defending or liberating planets in the name of Managed Democracy, you can’t go wrong with hurling several sharp objects at the enemy quickly.
However, as Reddit user Optimal-System7454 pointed out, the throwing knife in Helldivers 2 isn’t just a weapon of mass amusement. They can apparently go through shield packs, which could be helpful for armored enemies or…the eventual arrival of the Illuminate? It’s also worth pointing out that you can take down Chargers with the throwing knife by hurling four at its leg joint. So, lower difficulties, where some missions require you to take down these hulking monstrosities, might be the perfect scenario for its usage.
Now, since it’s a fairly new piece of equipment, AGS could eventually introduce a few buffs to make it more viable in-game. But until then, you’ll be better off running your typical assault rifle, support weapon, and Impact Grenade build. Otherwise, you might face the wrath of your frustrated squadmates after you get overrun for the tenth time because you chose to bring a throwing knife to a gunfight.
