Maxis has listed a job posting for a creative director to take the helm on a new, unannounced project in Austin, Texas (nice spot, PC Gamer).

Sure, I’m a lifetime fan of The Sims, and this is big news for me specifically. But, this would be Maxis’ first new IP in a decade, which is pretty significant. According to the job posting, it requires someone who has experience in ‘designing a game with a long-term live service’ and will ‘understand how user-generated content and experiences are shaping products in the market.’ The potential applicant will also know how to carry ‘major triple-A PC and mobile games from concept to completion.’

All very Maxis-y so far. The job listing reveals that there is a Maxis office in Austin, Texas, whereas The Sims is developed in Redwood Shores. That sounds like it should be a Sims neighbourhood but it is actually a real place in California. Moreover, the opportunity lists that experience working with a ‘live service title’ and with ‘licensing partners’ is a bonus, so we could be looking at a licensed game.

This is all speculation, of course. Once the project is up and running, we’ll wait for an update or official announcement to break and satisfy our (but especially my) curiosity.
