The Sims 4 is going free to play this October

EA has announced it’s making the base game of The Sims 4 free to play on all formats from this October.

The announcement came in advance of a special Behind The Sims Summit stream, scheduled for the same day as the free to play launch, October 18.

As part of the move, EA say their team is “more dedicated than ever to developing new and meaningful The Sims 4 experiences for our players and we will continue to develop and release packs, kits and Sims Delivery Express drops into the foreseeable future.”

The Sims 4 – free to play release date

The Sims 4 will go free to play on Tuesday, October 18 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PC and Mac.

Free to play owners will just have access to the base game without any expansions. However, those with an EA Play and EA Play Pro subscription will be able to claim an upgraded version, with expansions.

EA Play members will be able to get the recent Get to Work Expansion for free. Meanwhile, EA Play Pro members will get that and The Sims 4 Toddler Stuff expansion.

In addition anyone who’s purchased The Sims 4 between September 14 through October 17 will get the Desert Luxe Kit for free, just by logging in. You’ll find it the main menu when you login.

The Behind the Sims Summit will kick off at 10am PDT or 6pm UK time on the game’s official YouTube and Twitch channels.
