Speaking to Yahoo Games, Johnson, who will play the lead in the movie, has revealed that the Spy Hunter movie is progressing well. With the script penned by Stuart Beattie (Collateral and Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl) now complete, Johnson says that shooting should begin later this year, with a release planned for July 2007.
“Spy Hunter will have great action. Some of the set pieces that were written are absolutely mind-blowing,” He also expressed Universal’s hopes of turning Spy Hunter into a long running franchise, but made it clear that he believes the film can’t simply rely on a successful brand.
The Rock is also staring in Spy Hunter: Nowhere to Run on Xbox and PlayStation 2, which is scheduled for release in September.
