Sony has announced that it’s increasing the price for membership to its PlayStation Plus subscription service in Europe and the UK, which follows on from a price hike in North America last year. In an email going out to PS Plus members, Sony informed them that the service will now cost a bit more. From August 31, the price of PS Plus will increase to £49.99/ €59.99 annually. That’s a £10 increase on the current price of a yearly subscription.

For a quarterly subscription, the price will change from £14.99/€19.99 to £19.99/€24.99 per quarter. Monthly, the price will change from £5.99/€6.99 to £6.99/€7.99 per month.

This basically means that Sony will hike up the price of the PS Plus membership at 00:01 on August 31, 2017. If you’re an existing member, all recurring subscription fees payable on or after this date will be charged at the new price. If your subscription runs out next year, you’ll be charged the new price then.

If your membership runs out before the end of August you should probably stack your subscriptions at the current price before it’s all hiked up. This price increase brings the fairly reasonably priced PS Plus in-line with the cost of Xbox Live, which also saw a price increase a few years ago.

Sony Interactive Entertainment have not provided a reason for the change.
