Publisher Digerati & developer Conradical Games have announced The Outbound Ghost, a Paper Mario inspired RPG coming later this year.

You’ll play as a recently deceased ghost, who comes to the town of Outbound with no memory. Everyone there is also a ghost, handily enough, & so you’ve taken it upon yourself to help them ascend to the afterlife. To do so, you’ll have to explore this cute, colourful world, help the denizens of Outbound finish their unfinished business and hopefully earn your own way into the great beyond.

There’s an adorable cast of characters to meet, of course. Each of them have their own backstories, missions and storyline to follow. You’ll also be spending some of your time in turn-based combat, where you can earn badges. These badges can be then equipped to give you stat boosts in things like attack, defence and so on.

As for your party, they’re actually made up of aspects of your former personality. You’ll team up with members like Regret, Benevolence and Jealousy and use them against your foes. The game’s distinct art style gives proceedings a light and breezy touch, and there’s plenty of humour in the writing too.

You can check out a trailer for the game below, courtesy of Games Radar, along with the game’s first dev log. The Outbound Ghost is aiming for a Q4 2022 release. It’ll arrive on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC.
