An Instagram post by the franchise’s leading man included an April 2017 date and title, alongside the tagline: “New Roads Ahead”.

The text was imposed over the New York City skyline, which conflicts with earlier reports of a shoot in Cuba.

“Universal Pictures is currently in the process of seeking approval from the United States and Cuban governments to explore shooting a portion of the next instalment of the ‘Fast & Furious’ series in Cuba,” a studio spokesperson said earlier this month.

Dwayne Johnson has also been confirmed to star in Fast 8, whilst Straight Outta Compton’s F. Gary Gray will direct.

Fast 8 has a lot to live up to, with Furious 7 taking $1.5 billion globally and becoming one of the most lucrative movies of all time.

Look our for Fast 8 on April 17, 2017.
