Activision has published a new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare trailer that showcases the reboot’s storyline, its key players, and the challenging calls that players will make.
Captain Price and the SAS will collaborate with the CIA and the Urzikstani Liberation Force to reclaim stolen chemical weapons. Captain Price is one of the main characters of the Modern Warfare games, and here he appears to take centre stage. Commander Farah Karim witnessed her parents murdered by Russian forces when she was a child, and is expectedly initially reluctant to cooperate with Western units. The trailer also confirmed that the fate of characters will be placed in the players’ hands. ‘How about you, Captain?’ an enemy addresses Price, with hostages held at gunpoint behind him. ‘Are you going to let them die?’
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has assured a grittier tone to the 'soft reboot' compared to previous instalments. Whether Activision and Infinity Ward deliver a critical and convincing exploration of Western military activity in civil wars in Asia remains to be seen. The game has garnered criticism for the arrival of white phosphorous in killstreaks; Amnesty International has considered the use of chemical weapon against civilians in the Syrian Civil War to be a war crime.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare launches for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on October 25. Watch the story trailer below.
