Action platformer The Messenger is indeed, as was rumoured last week, coming to PS4, and today developer Sabotage has confirmed the news and given the game a release date of March 19.

As detailed on the PlayStation Blog, The Messenger is a love letter to the original Ninja Gaiden II, and has more than its fair share of influences from that game as you play as a young ninja delivering a scroll across a cursed world to ensure his clans survival. However, it also cleverly goes from 8bit to 16bit as you progress and expands from a simple platformer out into more of a Metroidvania type of game. It's had heaps of praise already from its previous release on other formats, even recieving a Keighly (AKA Game Award) for Best Indie Game at 2018's ceremony.

Even better, the post confirms that the PS4 version of the game will also be recieving the free Picnic Panic DLC announced at the tail end of last year when it launches later this summer. The Messenger is already available on PC and Nintendo Switch.
