Sand Sailor Studio  and the Square Enix Collective have released the launch trailer for Black The Fall. Set in a communist dystopia, Black The Fall is a puzzle-platformer where you play as an old machinist who must solve a series of puzzles to escape from a world which intends on keeping him trapped in the system. An Orwellian nightmare of epic proportions.

Black The Fall is directly inspired by the experiences of the devs’ families, who lived in Romania while it was a communist dictatorship. ‘Romania only broke free of the shackles of the Soviet bloc less than 30 years ago, so for many people living in the country today the memories are still fresh.’ said Cristian Diaconescu, creative director at the Bucharest-based Sand Sailor Studio.

With its muted colour palette setting the tone, the game is based around using puzzle-solving and stealth in order to escape the oppressive state, with players being tasked with avoiding being seen by cameras, guard dogs and soldiers.

Black The Fall was one of the first games that featured on Square Enix Collective back in 2014, a website where you can see pitches for, and give feedback on, new game projects every week.

So, if you’re looking for a Communist dystopian puzzle-platformer, check out the trailer and see if it’s for you.

Black The Fall is out now on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
