The Last Guardian is in the process of being “re-engineered”, Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida has revealed, hinting at the prospect of Studio Japan’s mysterious title being transferred to PlayStation 4.
“So, we’re waiting for the right time to re-introduce The Last Guardian in an appropriate way,” Yoshida told GamesIndustry.biz. “I can’t… Well, the game is in development, and it’s well staffed, and Ueda-san is here, working – even though he’s not a Sony employee, he’s dedicated to the product. But we’re not ready to update yet.”
Yoshida’s comments follow on from an earlier statement in the same interview, where he revealed that Sony’s “large teams are shifting, transitioning from PS3 to PS4, and continuing on Vita as well.”
Nevertheless, he can’t confirm whether the game is still in development for PlayStation 3 or whether it’s been moved to PS4.
“That, I cannot talk about,” he told the site when asked directly what console it was coming out on.
“The game has never stopped,” he added, “the team has always been here. They’re going through the re-engineering of the game, so the team size is smaller, because it’s more engineering focused right now.”
The last time we saw The Last Guardian was at TGS 2010, with the game seeing numerous delays following its original 2011 release date.
