Crytek has announced that its upcoming monster-slaying action romp Hunt: Showdown will be entering its closed alpha phase for PC on January 31. If this tickles your fancy then pop on over to the official site and sign up, after which you’ll receive an email if you’re lucky enough to be selected for the teaser.

During the closed alpha the development team will be testing various elements of Hunt: Showdown, including fundamental gameplay mechanics as well as ‘balancing and backend functionality.’

Hunt: Showdown sees two teams of bounty hunters slugging it out for the right to vanquish vicious beasts for fame and glory. The game takes place in a sprawling sandbox environment combining PvP and PvE elements, and Crytek’s promising we’ll see a continuous drop of fresh equipment, ranks, traits, weapons, and more for closed alpha players.

Production of Hunt: Showdown has had a bit of a rough ride, with the original incarnation of the game — a spiritual successor to Darksiders known as Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age — having been scrapped after Crytek USA went under. It later resurfaced in May 2017, where it is currently in development Crytek’s main headquarters.Â
