Universal has snapped up F. Scott Frazier to pen the script for the upcoming movie adaptation of Gears of War, reports The Wrap.

Frazier is probably best known for his work on Vin Diesel actioner xXx: Return of Xander Cage, although I'm not sure that's considered a good thing. He also put pen to paper on Collide, which featured Anthony Hopkins and Nicholas Hoult.

Shane Salerno of Armageddon fame was previously attached to write the script for Gears of War, although that is obviously no longer the case.

No one has been cast in the Gears of War film yet, although Dave Bautista, who plays Drax the Destroyer in Guardians of the Galaxy, has commented that the part of Marcus Fenix would be a dream role.

In the meantime, developer The Coalition is working on the next chapter in the video game series, Gears 5, which will ship for PC and Xbox One in 2019.
